This shower room cabinet was entirely designed and built to measure to accommodate a double washbasin, while taking into account an existing element in the space: a cupboard with a louvered, shutter-like aesthetic. Rather than repeating this motif, the choice was made to use solid doors, creating a more restrained and balanced counterpoint.
The cabinet features two sets of double butterfly-opening doors, which slide discreetly within upper and lower grooves. The movement is guided by hand-shaped wooden stops — a simple, durable solution that reflects a traditional, craftsman-led approach.
The cabinet structure is made from meranti, while the door frames are in pine and the panels in MDF. A white painted finish brings unity to the different materials and allows the piece to integrate naturally into the shower space.
Although this was a personal project, it was carried out with the same level of care and attention as a workshop commission. The care devoted to design, joinery, and finishing is never proportional to a project’s budget: every piece, regardless of its scale, deserves the same respect for both the gesture and the material.
